You are invited to join Johnny’s virtual reality world and help make it something truly wonderful for all of us.

Johnny is the principal character in my novel in progress – Johnny Oops, and even though some people doubt that he is real, he is as real as he can be, and he has a terrific imagination.

How about you? Do you have a terrific imagination? If so please help us by suggesting things that will help make Johnny’s virtual reality world a real success so that it will become your world too; a special playground of the mind just for you.

What would you like to have in your new virtual reality world that you feel is missing in the one we live in now? Don’t worry if it sounds a little weird. This is the place for you to express your true feelings.

Don’t be shy; sometimes fact is stranger than fiction. What would you like to add to this world of the future?

To start us off Johnny has suggested that in Johnny’s World. Everyone is successful, healthy, and wealthy. What would you like to add? Maybe something about the time or place or the kind of people that populate Johnny’s World and what makes them tick? Are they hard working, or do they live just for the pleasure of the moment? How tall are they? Are they heavy or skinny? Do they have families or loved ones? Are they young or old or ageless?

What are the plot and the theme of this virtual reality world (VRW)? What purpose does it serve besides being a forum for you to express yourself?

How many people populate it?

How do you make friends in this VRW?

How do you find someone to love?

What are the customs of the people?

What are their politics?

Do people in this world have faith in God?

Are they free from doubt and fear?

Are they kind and caring?

How do you find answers to your questions in this VRW?

Come on use your imagination. Let’s make Johnny’s World a magical place where everyone’s dreams can come true. You are invited to participate and come up with the rules for Johnny’s Virtual Reality World.

What do you think we should do?

This is going to be the type of world you would want to live in. Please help make it the best place to be. Johnny is counting on your help. Please use your imagination and express yourself.

Are you Living in a Virtual Reality World?

Hi, I’m Johnny Oops and I have a problem. Sometimes I feel like I’m not real. Granted I am a fictional character in a novel by the same name, but I still question my true identity. I question my very existence. In my case I think it is understandable, but what about you? Do you question your existence? Do you know if you are real?

Sometimes I feel like we are all bit players in some virtual reality world designed by the master of all out souls. What’s that they say about us all being God’s creatures? What does that mean? Is it possible we are being manipulated in some giant virtual reality game for the pleasure, entertainment, or instruction of some vast intelligence whose capabilities and intentions we cannot even fathom? Is this a test?

Sometimes I feel like I am operating in a dream. Other times I feel like I’ve been here before and done that before. Are we virtual characters who are reliving the same program over and over again?

Doesn’t it strike you as strange that so many of us look alike, think alike, and have the same passions? Has the same program made us all? Is the same software running our lives?

Let’s just suppose for a moment that we are all part of some gigantic virtual reality game. Who would have made it and why? Why all the conflict in this virtual world, why all the sadness and tragedy? Do we exist to the extent we do solely for the enjoyment of a master programmer, or do we serve a higher purpose? Who could have ordained all the random acts of kindness and catastrophe, or the quirks of nature, that are built into our lives? Where do our feelings of happiness and joy come from? Is there really any meaning to our lives, or is this all preprogrammed and the outcome predetermined?

I keep thinking about this virtual reality world we may be living in and have come to the conclusion that we shouldn’t worry about it too much because this world is as real as it is going to get for us. We have to learn to make the most of our circumstance. We have to learn to have faith that who we are, and what we do is real and has meaning. We have to learn to believe that we have a purpose. We have to believe that we can make a difference, and that we have been put here on this good earth of ours for a reason.

And yet in the back of my mind, I still wonder. Do you have your doubts? Are we replaying the same game of life over and over again in a virtual reality world? Do we really have any choice?

The best answer I have come up with so far is that I think, I question, I can make choices, I have feelings, and therefore I am real. What about you? Are you using all the abilities that God programmed you with? Do you have deep emotional feelings? Are you asking the right questions? Think about it. This is not a game. This is a reality check of your own choosing. The outcome is virtually assured if you just have faith.

A Review of Scott Washburn’s Novel "Pathfinder"

Barb Carges asked:

David Dysinger is a 23rd century scientist who dreams of traveling to the stars. After years of sending out and analyzing faster then light probes, he and his team are ready to build the first FTL starship. The problem is getting the money and backing to build such a ship. Neither the scientific community nor the government are interested in star travel. The majority of people on Earth spend most of their lives wired into their computers, living in virtual reality. The governments of Earth are only interested in keeping the wire heads happily ensconced in their virtual worlds while they run the real world. The only people interested in star travel are the spacers, free thinking individuals who live aboard the orbiting space stations and supplying the power needed by Earth.

Backed by the Spacers and the only privately owned station, David and his team pursue their dream . For them this project is a scientific adventure. What none of them realize is that Earth’s leaders see their adventure as a threat. A threat that has to be stopped. But sabotage, lies, and murder will not stop the crew of Pathfinder.

“Pathfinder” is Mr. Washburn’s second novel. His first novel “War Among the Ruins” is an excellent piece of military science fiction. “Pathfinder” is also excellent science fiction but less in the style of Weber and more in the style of Bradbury or Wells.

Both “Pathfinder” and “War Among the Ruins” are published by Stellar Phoenix and can be purchased through Amazon.com.
